The Soroptimist Making a Difference Award honors women who are working to improve the lives of women and girls through their personal and volunteer efforts. Although not Soroptimists, their work helps to promote the issues that are important to Soroptimists. The award honors women who are making extraordinary differences in the lives of other women and girls.
Soroptimist honored two women in March 2008 with a $500 check to the charity of their choice. Suzette Machado was honored for her vision and dedication to the construction of the Bill Collier Ice Rink, and her unfailing dedication for nearly 10 years as the volunteer manager of Klamath Ice Sports. Nancy Wendt was honored for her support of the KID Center, Ella Redkey Pool and for her driving force for the OIT Center for Health Professions. She is the founder of the local Friends of the Children and it is the Friends of the Children organization that will receive the $500 contribution.
